Hi everyone! Today we were fortunate enough to have the opportunity to attend the STEM Mentoring Cafe at the Curious Exhibit at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. We met with so many amazing scientists, engineers, mathematicians, and technologists. One of the many things that we learned about was how the Department of Energy is working on how to produce energy without using fossil fuels because the fossil fuels are one thing that is causing climate changes (ex. global warming!). We also learned about a type of animal called a Tunicate. They are so cool! One amazing thing about Tunicates is that scientists have discovered that the outer "shell" may have a chemical that can cure cancer! We also learned that Smallpox was the first ever eradicated virus! We also learned that around 80% of our water comes from the forests! We also learned that NASA does so many other things besides building rockets! There were so many more too!
We want to thank all of the mentors that we met with, and the other mentors that spent their time coming to talk with girls from all over the area.
